Queens of the Stone Age are officially entering their next era.
The rock heavyweights have announced their ninth studio album, Perfecth, arriving October 30 via Matador Records. Alongside the announcement, the band has released a new single, “Insignificant Other,” offering another glimpse into their first full-length record since 2023’s In Times New Roman….
“Insignificant Other” serves as one of the emotional centerpieces of Perfecth. Recorded in just the second of two takes, the track captures Joshua Homme, Troy Van Leeuwen, Michael Shuman, Dean Fertita and Jon Theodore playing with a loose, spontaneous energy.
“It’s a song about distance,” Homme said of the track. “About how someone can be your entire world only to simply vanish. And about the strange vertigo of being on the receiving end of that.”
The single follows “Easy Street,” featuring Nikki Lane, which Queens of the Stone Age debuted live during last year’s Catacombs tour before officially releasing the track as their first new music since In Times New Roman….
Produced by Homme and Shuman, Perfecth spans nine tracks recorded during sessions stretching from New Orleans to Los Angeles. The record explores different forms of love — romantic, familial and platonic — alongside the loss, lust and lessons that can come with them.
The album draws inspiration from kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold, embracing the idea that something damaged can become more beautiful through the process of putting it back together.
“Every song sounds like it’s from a different world,” Homme said. “And that’s on purpose, because it’s trying to stitch together all these emotions revolving around love, lust, foolishness, and the sort of wisdom that comes as a gift from all that.”
Even the intentionally misspelled title plays into that philosophy. Homme describes “perfect” as something that doesn’t truly exist, leading the band to break the word itself and turn it into Perfecth.
“Nothing in this world is perfect, but everything seems to be ‘perfecth,’” Homme explained. “And that title is funny when you’re in a group, but it ain’t so funny when you’re alone.”
In true Queens of the Stone Age fashion, the album announcement also comes with a dose of absurdity. A new Chapman Baehler-directed video stars Big Chongus as the embodiment of “perfecth,” joined by a collection of very good dogs as he searches for the perfect home.
Perfecth will be available digitally, on CD and standard black vinyl, with clear vinyl available through independent retailers. A limited deluxe edition will also feature handwritten lyrics, stationery, stamps and additional artwork housed inside a custom gatefold package.
The band will spend the months leading up to and following the album’s release on the road. Queens of the Stone Age resume their North American stadium dates with Foo Fighters on September 15 before heading overseas for shows in Iceland, Japan, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand. Additional headline dates for 2027 are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
