Olivia Rodrigo is back with new music, releasing her latest track, “serena joy,” globally today following an exclusive physical release at Analog Records in Orange County, California.
Written by Rodrigo alongside longtime collaborator Dan Nigro during sessions for her third studio album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, “serena joy” leans into a rawer side of Rodrigo’s sound. Described as punk in spirit, the track channels angst, urgency and protest energy while arriving just days before Rodrigo’s inaugural Daisy Chain Fields festival.
The song first surfaced on Friday, August 21, with CDs available exclusively at Analog Records, giving Orange County fans an early chance to hear the track. The limited release also continued Rodrigo’s support of independent record stores, following nearly 200 shops nationwide hosting midnight events for the release of her latest album.
“serena joy” also ties directly into the mission behind Daisy Chain Fields. A portion of the song’s net proceeds will benefit the Daisy Chain Fields Fund, which supports organizations working on behalf of women and girls.
Rodrigo will give “serena joy” its live debut when Daisy Chain Fields takes over Great Park in Irvine, California, on Saturday, August 29. The sold-out festival features an all-women lineup alongside nonprofit organizations and community partners.
